The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
