19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on court had led commentators to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
